The Tabernacle Between the Theophanies: Revelation 8:2-11:19

All that Man sees, hears, senses, remembers, analyzes, conjectures and believes (all that Man knows and how he learns to know) is controlled by his mind. The mind of Man resides in his brain: the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and Man became a living soul (Gen. 2:7). The Scriptures reveal to Man that he is constituted body and soul by the unique, focused creative activity of the Lord God. The Scriptures also reveal to Man the mystery that the Lord God, Who is One God, is the Triune God: Father and Son and Holy Spirit.

Thus far in the Book of Revelation, we have meditated upon the Person and Work of the Son of God (Rev 1:1-3:22), and the Glory and the Majesty of the Father seated upon His Eternal Throne (Rev. 4:1-8:2). Rev. 8:2-11:19 places into prominence the Person and Work of the Holy Spirit as He governs the ages and bestows the benefits of the Eternal Covenant upon the Redeemed.

Volume 2 of this series considered God’s Eternal Decrees as given by the Hand of God (a symbol for the Spirit) from the Eternal Throne of God to the Lamb of God who unseals the Decrees (Rev. 6:1-8:1). Continuing at the Eternal Throne, John now sees and hears how the Eternal God governs time and history by the Eternal Spirit of God (Heb. 9:14).

From the greetings of grace and peace to the Amen of Rev. 22:21, there are references to the Person and Work of the Holy Spirit. The content of the Book of Revelation is given to John in the Spirit (Rev. 1:10; 4:2; 17:3; 21:10). The Son and the Spirit together instruct the Churches. (Rev. 2:7, 11, 17, 29; 3:6, 13, 22). The Spirit pronounces blessing upon those who have died in the Lord (Rev. 14:13), and the Spirit and the Bride invite those thirsting for salvation to drink of the Water of life (another symbol for the Spirit) in Christ (Rev. 22:17). The Holy Spirit always delights in honoring the Lord Jesus, and He is called The Spirit of Prophecy because all prophecies concerning Jesus Christ come from Him. The Holy Spirit Himself is THE WITNESS TO JESUS, above and beyond all other witnesses (Rev. 19:10).
